What are the different types of hunger that you experience? Let’s look at our senses. We see food, we smell food, we taste food, we can feel food and yes, we hear food, think snap, crackle pop. All of these senses can trigger cravings or hunger. One of the most powerful is our eyes.
Think about when you see food. On TV, going past you at a restaurant, or something that is in your kitchen cupboard. You may not even be hungry but just the site of the food triggers you and before you know it, you are eating, based not on how you are feeling (hungry) but because of what you are seeing.
For today: Notice how many times “hunger” or cravings are triggered not by our stomachs but by your eyes.
My Notes from Yesterday: I was inspired to write this because of an experience I had last night. While working on some images that I had taken for a bakery, I found myself having an almost unquenchable desire for the pastries that I had taken photos of. I was amazed at how powerful just looking at the images were. I was lucky it was late at night and the place was closed.

I went to bed “hungry” the other night and resisted paging through a cooking magazine because I knew it would put me over the edge. In fact, I tossed it in the garbage. Last night, I went to bed “hungry” again and pulled the magazine out of the trash. But this time, the pictures didn’t hook me. Hmmm? Could it be that I was using a different set of I’s? If so, I wish I could hang out with those guys more often. If anyone has there number, please let me know.
I am trying to be really good about my diet these days, but my mother brought me back these amazing ’stroopwafles’ from her trip back to Holland and gave them to me last night. (not remotely raw, for the record) For the last two hours I have been dancing around them, and just caved in and grabbed one out of the bag, and sat down and opened your blog to this post! I am laughing because these treats remind me of Holland so much, and floods me with memories! Thanks for the post. As always, I enjoy your blog so much. Trish
