Happy Fall!

by Susan on September 7, 2010

My mom calls it “sweater weather”. I call it bliss. Last night as I lay in bed, the wind was howling and there was a chill in the air. I snuggled under the covers with the pups and sighed, content. I love the cold. I love gray days, wind, rain and snow. I think it is the Irish in me.

When I was a child, even through college, I couldn’t wait for the fall. While everything green was dying, our brains were waking up from their summer vacation. Time to engage, to learn. It was always an exciting time.

I still feel that same excitement every fall. I have been inspired! Rawmazing is going to be expanding, slowly but surely. I want to give you an update as to what is in the works!

First, I am going to start up the 21 Day Challenge again. 21 days of full on raw food. Start date will be this Friday, September 10th. That way, Day 21 lands on September 30, opening the door to the new addition to the site that will be starting October 1st.

For now I am calling it the other 10%. As you know, I am not always 100% raw. But what do I eat for the other 10 to 20%? What should we eat for the other 10 to 20%?

Well, this winter, I am going to introduce an entire section of super healthy, no-raw recipes that you can use for the other 10%. No processed foods, only healthy ingredients, prepared in healthy ways to give you the added warmth and sustenance that winter requires of us.

Those of you that are in very cold climates will know exactly what I am talking about. When it is below zero for months at a time, even warming raw food in the dehydrator doesn’t always cut it. So, I am on a mission to create recipes that will keep us super healthy through those dark, cold months.

The next piece of news it that I am turning my Photo 365 Challenge into a food photography/photography blog! I will be covering all kinds of information that will help you make your photographs sing! The photo 365 pages crashed on me about a week ago. I am rebuilding them, image by image. You can find the new blog by clicking on the link in the navigation menu, or here: Rawmazing Photo Blog. Once you get there…if you want to view the other Photo 365 images just click on the tab at the top and you will see them listed by month.

The images will also be for sale in print, calendar and card form soon!

I’m a Fall person too. And I love the rain and gray days, there’s beauty and comfort there too. Love cozying up inside with a cup of hot tea and a good book and a pot of veggie soup on the stove. I think a big salad with a bowl of soup is great fall/winter fare, looking forward to see what you are going to create!

Great post and such good news! Can’t wait for the warming recipes for winter’s dark cold nights. I have an old 1970′s crock pot and hope you’ll have some crock recipes for us all.

Congratulations on your new Photo blog. I am very excited about the fact that you’ll be sharing “behind the lense” knowledge with us!! You are such a fantastic artist and wonderful teacher. I want to spill the beans, nuts, and seeds to the other people who are on your site. Everyone can view Susan’s spectacular photography here:

Will you be posting what you are eating daily? I want to do this challenge too! Do you offer an ebook or guide on what to buy or how to plan for it. As a fulltime working mom of two babies – it is finding the time for planning, buying, prepping, etc. Some kind of course or ebook would be very helpful. Do you offer anything lime that?

Blessings to you and remember to get some R&R sometimes too!

I love fall as well and recently started upping my raw food intake to about 75-80%…I’m definitely on-board for the 21 Day Challenge and looking forward to it!

Congratulations on your photography blog! So much exciting news around here!

I love fall too. It’s my favorite season! I do miss it here in FLA. It’s just not the same as where I grew up in MASS.

Thanks Susan! Last winter was my first winter raw and it was tough. I missed the warm soups! I’m so glad you will be sharing healthy warm cooked recipes with your fans.

Thanks a million!

Good for you. I love it.

what i found after i’d been raw a few years…

i would bounce into lentil & bean & veg soups in the cold weather because the idea of ‘warm’ or ‘hot’ was comforting. but my hands and feet would be icicles in bed – like they had been before i went raw – when i went to sleep at night. i finally figured out that eating raw greens – watching the deer eat – once again allowed the blood to flow into my hands & feet, warming them. they would no longer be icicles. so i no longer eat cooked food when it gets cold… maybe i put on an extra blanket, cuz it’s ‘toasty’… and i love the cool nights too, susan!!!

That’s GREAT News!

Winters are very hard on me, so I’m really looking forward to your
recipes for the cold months!

I’ve lost 14 lbs (10 in the first 2 months of drinking 32oz morning smoothies packed with fruits & greens) BUT, I’m still losing! (i’m guessing it’s because i drink a similar smoothie @ nite as well)
I was 130 and loved how healthy i felt! (i’ve always been thin, so 130 felt great)
Now i’m down to 116; I DON’T want 2 lose ANY-MORE!
I need to gain at least 5 back!
I’m just not sure how — I don’t want to go back to eating red meat, bad fats etc.

:(

Thanks for this wonderful blog!

Ok…I have had a few people here writing in about losing too much weight. Which is a problem I have never had. I am not a doctor so can not give health advice but I would highly suggest writing down what you are eating and see if you are eating enough calories. And if your diet is balanced. That is where I would start. I would also suggest seeing your health professional to make sure that nothing else is going on that would be causing you to lose so much weight.

Hi Susan, I’m looking forward to your 21 day challenge. Thanks.

Since I somehow happened onto your website I’ve referred it several times as a beautiful site with outstanding photos, an interesting blog and raw food recipes. Since you are coming up with a new site and will incorporate selling cards here is a suggestion to consider; it is a need for me and could benefit you as well. It would be delightful to send gifts and thank you notes to my friends and customers directly from your site. The gift could be a recipe or your calendar or dessert cookbook but I’d also like to have access to picking a card and a photo, create a sentiment and provide a mailing address and include a visa or discover ‘gift’ card. There is a market for it with send out cards and you can do it via the Discovercard site but I’d like to do it with your pictures via your website. I can always order and send myself but thought you might be able to create this section sometime in the future.

Blessings, M

Omgosh…sounds beautiful, but between the recipes, the photography, cookbooks, the website seo, and all the other products I am working on involving this site, I put in about 12-14 hours a day. No kidding. Wish I could…but I just can’t. :-)

McKenna September 10, 2010 at 8:57 am

I’d love to start the 100% raw food challenge with you! Can you post what you’re going to be eating though? I’d like a guideline since I’m very new to this….I don’t want to get stuck not knowing what to make throughout the day.
I know I’d greatly appreciate it as well as some of the other people following your blog:)
Thanks so much for this site again and again!

Cheers
McKenna

PS I love fall weather too…

Susan September 10, 2010 at 8:59 am

I am preparing the raw food challenge as we speak. It is not going to be your typical challenge…check back in about an hour…
