Dehydrator Giveaway!

The time has come to do our first giveaway and is it ever a good one! Many raw food recipes require a dehydrator and if you don’t have one, it can be challenging. One of the most common questions I get is how to prepare the raw food recipes without a dehydrator. I hope to fix that problem for one of you!

The great folks over at TSM Dehydrators have donated a 300.00, 5 shelf, stainless Dehydrator, the D5! I couldn’t be happier to be able to offer this! I have one of these dehydrators. It is my favorite. It is quiet, sturdy, very easy to pull apart and clean and does a great job at temperature control. I have checked. Continue for the rules!

Here are the rules:

Enter by simply asking a question you have about raw food in the comment area.

Only one entry allowed per person.

Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday, March 18th, 2010.

Winner will be randomly selected and announced following the contest.

I will be answering your questions in upcoming blog posts!

Besides sprouting whole grains, what other ways can you get more whole grains and insoluble fiber into the raw diet?

I am interested in bread, or crackers that are raw….and healthy snack recipes for my son to take on the go.

What a great giveaway! My question is: what about sauces and things for dressing up raw food? I make my own vinagrettes and things, but some raw food could be delicious with an added sauce. But…that involves cooking. How do you handle the sauce question?

I met with a close friend who has been eating raw since November, and after talking with her, I’m on information overload and would like to start eating raw as well. My problem is, I’m not sure how to transition from a normal (mostly organic, lots of veggies and whole grains) diet to raw… Yesterday I was paralyzed with indecision and just spent most of the day hungry! Haha.

I’ve always been interested in the raw movement which brought me to your blog! I’ve never owned/used a dehydrator before so my question is – are there guidelines to know when exactly a recipe is done dehydrating, and ready to enjoy? I’d love to make up my own recipes, but the dehydrator is completely foreign to me. Fantastic giveaway Susan, and thank you for all the information you give on your blog! Good luck everyone – Cheers!

I am Heavily convicted about going Raw. I have tried a couple of different times and life stepped in the way (the end of ’09 was the worst time in our lives) I am so lucky to have a husband willing to go this journey with me though! Our daughter is “bucking” us a little and wants to simply remain vegetarian…I am hoping that I can come up with new things/recipes to keep her interest and help her to make the decision as well! I have a juicer/blender/spiralizer/food processor so far. My husband and I have been looking at the dehydrators and know this will make our transition complete! Will RAW be completely worth the struggle it takes to get there?

Yay! I would love to win a dehydrator. I have been making what I thought was raw truffles but I occasionally use Hershey’s special dark cocoa powder. Since that is a processed food does this mean it is technically not raw?

I find it easy to eat mostly raw in the summer but come fall, I need warm foods, like soups and veggie stews. Are there foods that would help make me feel warm? (other than hot spices for which I have a low threshold of tolerance). Thanks so much for this generous contest! I didn’t even know stainless steel dehydrators existed!

I would love a dehydrator- I have been wanting one for a while!

My question is: Is it possible to go raw with very young children? I am pregnant- and I plan to breastfeed- but once I begin introducing solids, is it best to steam vegetables before mashing (as I have read?) I have read that steam helps break down fibers that make digestion difficult for little sensitive stomachs. I want to give my child the best in nutrition, so maybe I should wait until he/she is older to have him/her eat high raw- what are your thoughts? Any experience with this dilemma yourself?
