Avocado Coconut Oil Hair Mask

My darling daughter was recently in town for a visit. I can’t tell you how much fun it was to introduce her to my new home, the San Francisco Bay area. We had an amazing time and once again, I was reminded what a remarkable young woman she has grown into. I love that at 23, she is into healthy eating and skin care, creates a lot of her own recipes and is a wiz in the kitchen. We hiked, made food together, spent a day in the city and a day at the shore. It was a wonderful visit.

While she loved the heat without humidity, she was less impressed on the toll it had taken on my hair. “Mom, your hair looks a little dry and frizzy”, she informed me one afternoon. From the mouths of babes, right? I couldn’t disagree as I had been noticing the dryness myself. Off to the kitchen we went as I whipped up a great hair mask for both of us. We came up with some wonderful avocado recipes.

Honestly, I knew it would help, but I wasn’t prepared for the transformation these three simple ingredients created! Both Kaia (youngest daughter) and I ended up with hair that was shiny and silky. We both agreed that our hair hasn’t looked this good for months! I made an immediate promise to myself to use this mask at least once a month

Great idea. I often buy Avocados that are 50-70% brown when I open them – such a nuisance and it seems such a waste to throw them away. Now I know what to use them for instead.

Hah – silly me thinking that avocado was only good for eating ;p
I will be trying this out as I have noticed lately my hair is getting dry and frizzy :/
I just recently started reading your blog, so I don’t know about many past posts – but I just recently (well, a year ago now…) moved to the Bay Area myself. Small world =)

In answer to Jan’s question, not a good idea for blondes to use this. Asked my colourist. Also, the same applies for an oil like olive oil because of the green pigments. But…coconut oil is great and also Morrocan Oil finally is making theirs in a ‘light’ version for us blondes!

Pinned this – looks like a great idea! My hair tends to dry out really easily, so I’m going to have to try this out sometime soon. Thank you!
