Smoothie Thursday!

Turn on the TV, pick up a magazine or newspaper and you can’t help but read something about how unhealthy our eating habits have become. More and more people are recognizing that a diet of processed, highly sugared foods are much less than ideal. Adding more veggies and fruits is the number one suggestion for improving our diet!

As we transition to a healthier diet, one of the goals should be to make sure you eat your “good foods” first. The theory being that if you start with the cupcakes, you will fill yourself up and never get around to the healthy foods, depriving your body of the needed nutrients, setting up conditions that can allow weight gain and disease to occur. The easiest way to add those fruits and veggies are green drinks and fruit smoothies.

I drink one for breakfast every morning! I get a great boost with nutrients that energize me. I also get a good start on my servings of fruit or veggies, making sure that those good nutrients are coursing through my blood stream! Recently, I ran out of smoothy ingredients for a couple of days. I noticed a huge difference in energy level, mental clarity and attitude.

Today’s raw food recipe is a great mixture of spinach, carrots, cucumbers and a few more ingredients to make it especially tasty and refreshing!

Just started the raw food diet, and had to improvise a little this morning based on the ingredients i have in stock. It turned out great! I used the celery, spinach, an apple instead of the grapes, the carrots, ginger, pure vanilla extract, and raw honey, water and ice.

I’d used my Magic Bullet for a LONG time and now using the NutriBullet. Main reason for not juicing is we are travelling in our motor home and just don’t have the space for one. I put a wide variety of greens (or raw beet) and fruits in my morning smoothie/shake. In addition I put chia seeds, flax seed, brewers yeast, turmeric, cinnamon, dash of cayenne pepper and ground citrus peel and/or shaved frozen lemon. I eat my walnuts, etc. thru the day as snacks. I eat the crunchy veggies/fruits, i.e. carrots, celery, apples, as snacks too. Then for evening I have my meat protein, chicken or fish, sweet potato and other veggies, i.e. cabbage, beets, etc. All of this due to finding out I needed to be gluten free, dairy free and soy free. People ask me what’s left to eat? There is plenty of healthy fresh food if you look for it. God only gave us one body and He expected us to take care of it. You are so right that there is more and more every day helping us to be more aware of our health. Thankfully so. Thank you Susan for all your ideas. To all your readers: Be creative; it’s fun!

If you were to use a different fruit than grapes, what would it be?

I use coconut water when making my drinks – tastes so much better than plain filtered water! But I’ve found that I need to use much more water than this (& other) recipes on this site call for. Especially with the large amount of greens. I use a Vitamix – Any comments?

If you like your smoothies thinner, or find you need to add more water, please do so! Cheers!

Wow! How exciting to find you! I followed a link on Pinterest! I am working on becoming raw again, and can’t wait to try this! I always juiced carrots to start off my morning, but would much rather blend, and have carrot juice only a few days a week!

Can’t wait to browse your blog some more!
    Blessings,
    Becky
